Matthew and Katherine were married in the backyard of their home in downtown Birmingham. Their untraditional wedding ceremony reflected the couple's energetic, colorful spirit and they wanted their wedding photography to do the same. Their home is perched atop Red Mountain, right underneath the Vulcan (the world's largest cast iron statue!) and the fun photos above were taken right down the street from the ceremony.
The wedding day was November 1, the day after Halloween and during Dia de los Muertos, meaning the wedding was rife with costumery and color. Katherine's mom even walked her down the aisle dressed as Humphrey Bogart!
I certainly enjoyed this backyard Birmingham wedding. Since I am relocating to Birmingham this winter, I look forward to photographing many more weddings in the area!
